Aromasin

Aromasin

Estrogen is found in high amounts in the female body. It is useful for regulating many internal systems. However, when someone has breast cancer, the cells can spread to other parts of the body very quickly. The use of Aromasin can slow down the spread of the cancer by reducing the amount of estrogen found in the body. The technical name of it is Exemestane.

Reasons to use

Aromasin is often used to treat breast cancer in women who have completed menopause. It is also used to treat women who have a high risk of such cancer returning. This product is often used in conjunction with other resources to aggressively fight cancer. The main role is to help slow down the movement of the cancer cells so they can be reduced rather than able to spread.

Dosing

This is a tablet, and Aromasin is taken daily. It should be taken at the same time each day for the best results. Taking it with food can prevent nausea but it can be taken on an empty stomach by many users without any problem. Don’t increase the dose without the consent of your doctor and don’t skip doses or it won’t work like it was intended.

For women taking Aromasin as a source of preventing breast cancer from returning, the dose is extremely low. For those fighting breast cancer, it will vary, depending on many factors. The weight of the woman, her age, and the overall medical assessment all play a role in that determination. The higher the dose, the higher the risk of side effects. The doctor will strive to offer the lowest dose, but they will also want the greatest benefit from the use of Aromasin too.

Possible Side Effects

The possible side effects someone will experience depend on body chemistry, other medications, overall health, and the dose of Aromasin. Most people are able to tolerate it well with very few side effects. For those that do experience them, they tend to go away after a few weeks; the body just needs time to adjust.

While the side effects can be hard to deal with, the overall benefit Aromasin offers can make them well worth it. Such side effects that could develop include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Hair loss
  • Hot flashes
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Pain in the joints, muscles, or bones
  • Sweating

If you experience serious side effects, you need to talk to your doctor right away. They need to be aware of what you are experiencing so they can help you to find a solution. This includes:

  • Anxiety
  • Dark colored urine
  • Depression
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Yellowing of the skin

While an allergic reaction to Aromasin is rare, it is something to watch for when you start taking Aromasin. If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction, make sure you seek immediate medical attention. Such symptoms include:

  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Swelling of the face or hands
  • Dizziness
  • Trouble breathing

Precautions

While Aromasin is typically only given to women beyond the age to bear children, that isn’t always the case. Women who could get pregnant need to take additional safeguards against it with non-estrogen birth control methods. Women who would like to breastfeed should be off this product for at least three weeks before doing so.

Let your doctor know if you start to feel odd once you take this product. If you notice any enlarged lumps or new lumps around the breast tissue while taking Aromasin, they need to know about it as soon as possible.

Not everyone is a good candidate for the use of Aromasin. Individuals with any of the following need to make sure they fully disclose it and discuss it with their doctor. This includes:

  • Blood clots
  • Confusion
  • Coughing up blood
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Heart disease
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Fainting
  • Slurred speech
  • Numbness in the arms or legs

Make sure your doctor knows about any allergies you may have. There can be ingredients found in Aromasin that would increase your risk of such an allergic reaction. Women who are pregnant shouldn’t use this product as it can harm the fetus. Precautions should be taken to prevent a pregnancy while using it. Any birth control should be estrogen free. Women who would like to nurse a child need to stop using Aromasin for at least three weeks before they do so. This is to ensure it isn’t still in the bloodstream.

Drug Interactions

Be open with your doctor about all other products you take. Even over the counter and herbal products can adversely react with Aromasin. You don’t want to create any problems or lower the potency of this product when it comes to battling breast cancer. Your doctor also needs to be aware of all prescription medications you take as not all interact well with each other.
